Laser surgery has come a long way. There are many considerations before going in for lasik eye surgery. Ed had his surgery done by a good city doctor that is well known. She charged more, but we all knew her reputation and didn't mind paying more. I wanted to get surgery, and I thought that I might want to use the same doctor. I called and made an appointment for a consultation her, and was able to get one for a two weeks away. Tara wanted to go with me, so I made it for earlier in the day, before she started work. We got to the office and waited for at least two hours at least before we saw the doctor. She was a surprising young. Later, we found out that she was only in her twenties. In fact, she was 23 years old. Her name was Dr. Randi Callahan. The name was familiar. Her great grandfather is a member of my diabetes support group. Her great-grandfather, Mr. Callahan, is 95 years old and is training for the Chicago Marathon. He can run 7 and 8-minute miles. So here is his great-grand daughter practicing medicine at an age when most are still in school. Tara was a little worried about such a young doctor doing a procedure like this, but I wasn't. Not after knowing her great grandfather for so long, and writing so much about him.
