Someone once asked me what the best have ever gotten were. They would have to be the free tickets I got to go see Mel Brooks’ The Producers. I had received them through a program that was run from my college, they might have this at other colleges also, call the Metropolitan Experience. It basically is a program where a whole bunch of money is donated to help students get a real classy, upscale, or metropolitan experience. You can either go to a fancy restaurant, an opera, a ballet, or a show. The tricky thing is that there are about five thousand students and only ten programs and about twenty spots for each program. So there were these tickets to see The Producers, and this was probably my first real, real Broadway experience that launched my huge interest in theatre. I always had been interested but had never really gone and seen anything. Well anyways I basically camped out all night in front of the signup and was the second person on the list to go see. Now there were tons of people wanting to see the show and luckily I signed up after camping out- but it caused such a stir that the administration changed the procedure and made it a lottery after you sign up and not just first come first serve. ‘Ain't I a stinker!
